Description

The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), the largest multi-faceted behavioral health system in the Country, is seeking an Assistant Medical Director for their State-Operated Adult Services Division. Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director for State-Operated Adult Services, the Assistant Medical Director provides guidance and clinical consultation on patient cases, ensures core clinical competencies, provides support to clinicians, and consults on matters relating to quality of care in OMH operated Adult Psychiatric Centers.

 The  Assistant Medical Director oversees and manages OMH’s Consultation Service for State-Operated inpatient, outpatient, emergency, community support, and residential programs. The Assistant Medical Director plays a vital role in OMH’s strategic planning regarding clinical practice; quality and risk management;   Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee; collaborations with Columbia University’s Department of Psychiatry / New York State Psychiatric Institute; among other initiatives. There is an opportunity for an academic affiliation with one of OMH’s  NYC academic medical centers.

OMH is an extensive behavioral health care system with 24 state-operated hospital facilities that include 22 hospitals, 92 outpatient clinics, 2 world-renowned research institutes, multiple residential sites, and dozens of crisis-based services. OMH regulates, certifies, and oversees the New York State public mental health system which includes more than 4,500 programs. OMH also conducts mental health research to advance prevention, treatment, and recovery through two internationally renowned research institutes: the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) and the New York State Psychiatric Institute (PI).

Specific scheduled hours and telecommuting availability for this position will be discussed during the interview process.  Periodic travel around the state may be required.

Minimum qualifications:

Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State and certification in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

The preferred qualifications of the candidate include:

• Specialty training or experience in Public Psychiatry
• Experience with ACGME Psychiatry Residency program protocols
• Leadership experience and familiarity with academic affiliation contracts
• Administrative experience
• Documented scientific and/or scholarly achievements
